"You don’t have to burn books to destroy a culture. Just get people to stop reading them.” – Ray Bradbury in Fahrenheit 451
Books and art photography! Can it get any better than that at A Novel Experience? September ushers in the 19th edition of SlowExposures--the photo festival held annually in Pike County that celebrates photography of the rural South. Check out more about the show below. And, join us in welcoming two of the show's photographers on the PopUp Tour! Felicia Gail and Noelle McCleaf will present "Reverberations" at the store during the show during the third weekend in September through mid October. Come for Saturday Brunch on Saturday, Sept. 17, 9-11 to meet them--and stay for Jerry Atnip's Juror's Talk about the PopUp Tour around the Square during SlowE.
It's time to get out and socialize--consider joining one of our monthly get-togethers. We have discussion groups on current subjects of interest, knitting groups, and book groups about all kinds of titles. We enjoy great discussions at our monthly "Living Room Conversations"--we celebrate diversity in opinion and celebrate how we pull off discussing a variety of topics in a fun, civil and informative way. It can be done! Alert! We won't be meeting this month because of the photo festival but we'll be baaaack!
Books can spark an amazing response in readers. We're featuring two displays-- titles that have been banned through the years and winners of the Pulitzer Prize--There's something for everyone in these two collections!
And, check out Emily's "space" collection of books--she has updated us on Artemis--it launches this Saturday--cross your fingers! For more down-to-earth favorites we've assembled a group of books about camping, hiking, and enjoying America's wild places. Come and see us! And, tell us what you've been reading!
