“Don't join the book burners. Don't think you're going to conceal faults by concealing evidence that they ever existed. Don't be afraid to go in your library and read every book...” Dwight D. Eisenhower It's Fall! We have been treated to lovely cool mornings and breathtaking sunsets of late. And, wait till we start seeing the scarecrows in front of our downtown shops! Downtown Zebulon will host our annual Treat or Treat on the Square when we welcome all manner of ghosts, goblins, and superheroes. It happens on Monday, October 31st from 6-8 p.m. And, spook alert--our favorite "visitor" will be here at the store for the month--the hooded guy arrayed in black with a scythe and that deep, deep laugh when you walk by... A special shout-out to Meredith of the Chamber of Commerce and her team of downtown merchants who organized last week's Princess Party on the Square--400 tiny princesses made the rounds to have their photos taken with real princesses---and Emily knew all of the Disney princesses! Stay tuned for more On-the-Square events! And, consider ordering your holiday book titles a little earlier than usual--we're hearing that supply lines may still be a little iffy again this year. And, don't forget that indie bookstores offer on-line ordering from BOOKSHOP--you can order from our very own page and support our store from the comfort of your home.

We were treated to a fantastic parade of visitors from across the country last month who were in Pike County for the SlowExposures Photography Festival--hopefully, we're getting back to normal day-by-day. It's great catching up with many of you! Keep reading and keep your spirits up-it works! And, as always, let us know what you're reading! The Novel Experience Team

CALLING ALL SPIRITS: We'd love to hang your photographs of haunted places and ghostly sightings in the store this month If you have a photograph of a ghostly image or one that calls to mind a spooky place, please bring it by so we can hang it on our walls for October. It can be framed or matted and we'll enter it in our October photo contest to win a gift certificate from the store. In years past we have had the most interesting conversations in front of images like this every year. And, we still avoid looking in the back of our Action-Thriller-Horror section when we turn out the lights as we're leaving for the night. The ghost busters from several years ago mentioned that a tall man in a long grey overcoat was standing there... We're digging out our Halloween decorations and stay tuned for a great display of spooky books!
